Subdomains allow you to configure web addresses for particular area of your website.

For example, you could configure your members area to be at members.yourdomain.com and have this point to the yourdomain.com/members/ directory of your hosting account. Each subdomain can have its own FTP account, meaning you can give separate access to other people for specific areas of your website.
